Tips For Packing Your Storage Container

Posted on

When it comes to moving, it is all about strategy. If you fail to plan, you are likely planning to fail. If you intend to rent a storage container for your upcoming move, it is a good idea to have a plan on how you will pack the unit. The more efficiently you pack the container, the more efficient your move will be. Here are some tips to get you started.

Box Your Belongings

It is a good idea to box all your belongings. You do not want to put items inside the container loosely for several reasons. First, this mistake will take up an unnecessary amount of space. Second, you minimize the risk of damage to your items since you can safely contain them inside a box. If you simply toss items inside the container, there is a great chance you will run out of space faster and that the items will get damaged during transport.

Pack Like You Want to Unpack

Make it a point to pack the storage container in the same order you want to unpack it. For example, once you unload the container, if you want to start unpacking your home with the kitchen, then the bathroom, and then the bedroom, you should load your bedroom goods first, then the bathroom items, and then lastly the kitchen items. When you pack in this fashion, you will spend less time searching for items because you will have exactly what you need, when you need it.

Make an Inventory

If you are moving from a house or a large apartment, you may need to rent more than one storage container. If so, make sure you take the time to make an inventory of your belongings so that you know exactly where each of your items are. To make it easy, put a number on each box and create a list with the box number and which container it is inside.

Secure Items

Make sure you secure the items inside the container. This is especially important if you plan to store large furniture inside the container. A great way to secure your items is to use a rope. For example, you can secure a section of boxes with rope. Securing the items helps prevent them from moving all over the container and causing damage to the other items.

Keep these tips in mind to make your rental a lot easier and to ultimately make your move smoother overall. Contact a company that offers storage container rentals to learn more.
